Pressure mounting to ban Israel from world soccer
JVL Introduction
A campaign to ban Israel from European and indeed world football is hotting up.
Ireland has now joined Norway and Turkey in calling for Israel to be suspended from international competition.
The FAI (Football Association of Ireland) bases its case on the undisputed fact that the Israeli Football Authority is in breach of Uefa statutes by
a) allowing the organisation of clubs in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank without the consent of the Palestinian Football Association which is the authority there; and
b) failing to implement and enforce an effective anti-racism policy.
This ban can’t come soon enough.
