Labour’s internal purge continues unabated
JVL Introduction
More Labour councillors from the left of the party are being driven out by the hierarchy’s ongoing clampdown on any dissent from official policy.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza and welfare cuts at home are among issues that brought Lewisham councillors Liam Shrivastava and Hau-Yu Tam into conflict with party bosses, forcing them out and into the arms of the Greens.
Their story is a familiar one as Labour haemorrhages members at a rate that would be of huge concern to the leadership if it cared about its support base as much as it does about wealthy donors, and right wing media have been crowing happily about the exodus of disillusioned local councillors.

Why is anyone of conscience still a member of a party which actively participates in the genocide of Palestinians? It beggars belief.
As a recent member of Lewisham Green Party, l am impressed by their comradeship and support for Palestine ( many members are active in PSC in opposing the Labour council’s continued support for Israel). Lewisham Green Party members are actively campaigning to gain seats at the next year’s council elections. Membership has increased by 100 to 600 in the recent months.
Labour has been bought off by zionists money, many cabinet members have. The whole world has seen what is happening, yet the west continues to pedal zionists lies. Glastonbury shows what youth are beginning to see, which is brilliant.
People in PSC seem to be panicking worried that they might be banged up. They can’t jail everyone, when building workers were jailed 1973 they refused to accept they were guilty. Shrewsbury 24.
A little off topic, but I am a little puzzled by the sentence “Any additional breaches of your contract” in the letter sent to Liam Shivastava and wonder what ‘contract’ it is? I stand to be corrected but wasn’t aware prospective Councillors signed a ‘contract’? A signed declaration of undying allegiance to Starmer perhaps? Or just more legalistic nonsense we saw so much with Starmer as Leader of the Labour Party when suspending and expelling members on the most spurious of grounds…
