It’s good to be bad to the bad guys

In the old days, apologists for Israel used to say that ‘we’ don’t do bad stuff. Now they say, yes we do ‘bad stuff’ but it’s necessary because it’s part of how we defeat the bad guys.
We publish below a dialogue in which Michael Rosen’s imaginary Tutor explains this philosophy to the gullible young King.
Any resemblance between the arguments presented here and a recent article by journalist John Ware are of course purely coincidental.
We would note that while Ware’s lengthy justification for military conflict does contain some truths about Iran, it takes no account of the fact that most of humanity would prefer peace to the endless “War of Civilisations” that he advocates.

[David] Frost: So, what in a sense you’re saying is that there are certain situations and the Huston plan or that part of it was one of them where the president can decide that it’s in the best interest of the nation or something and do something illegal.
[President] Nixon: Well, when the president does it … that means that it is not illegal.

And so how will the tutor address China or any country in the third world that rises up against Israel, the US and the western world? After all, what works for one state must work for all states.
Sometimes being bad to the supposed bad guys has consequences. Hopefully, the more often the bad deeds are punished, the less often the so-called “good guys” will commit them.

“BELGIAN SOLDIER UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR POSSIBLE WAR CRIMES IN GAZA
The Belgian prosecutor’s office says it has launched an investigation into possible war crimes committed by a Belgian soldier fighting for Israel in Gaza, US publication Politico reports.
The news site said the probe focused on a Belgian member of an elite unit of the Israeli military.
Citing multiple reports in local media, Politico said the man is a dual Belgian-Israeli citizen in his 20s from the Brussels municipality of Uccle who serves the Israeli army in the “Refaim” sniper unit.”
It’s only a very small trickle of alleged offenders who are facing justice as yet … but the process is underway, thank God. One can’t help wondering whether the alleged war crimes carried out by this sniper included shooting children.

Possibly – or probably – why the US has not signed up to the International Criminal Court, or the International Court of Justice protocols, and is the only country in the world – not – to have signed – and – ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
There may be others, but that will do, for now. The US is determined to be a law unto itself – above the laws of mortal man.
