It was never about Hamas – free Marwan Barghouti!

Peter Beinart argues that “Israel’s strategy is not as much focused on destroying Hamas as it is on subjugating the Palestinian people and really trying to control as much land as possible with as few Palestinians on it as possible.”

This is clearly shown by its refusal to release Fatah prisoner Marwan Barghouti, the one person with the credibility and popularity to unite the Palestinian people and negotiate a lasting peace settlement.

Not only has Israel refused to release him but there is clear evidence that he has been beaten by prison guards at least four times since October 7,  most recently  in September this year.

It is surely time for the Palestine solidarity movement to organise a campaign, in Britain and elsewhere, calling for his immediate release:

Free Marwan Barghouti!
