Jonathan Cook succinctly nails Israel’s relationship with western imperialism, reminding us that the genocide of the Palestinians is just the latest in the long history of racist colonial projects across the globe.
In this particular case it is protected by the charge that to name Israel’s crimes is to commit a blood libel against Jews.
But as Cook explains, the genocide we are witnessing is not Jewish. It is not even Israel’s. “It is the West’s. This is utterly a western co-production.”

How the 'blood libel' paradox keeps the West silent on Israel's genocide
The more depraved Israel’s actions, the more antisemitic it is to point out the truth. The painful reality is that, through Israel, the West can dress up boilerplate colonialism as a ‘Jewish’ project

The fact is, that this “War”, is not Netanyahu’s “War”, but, as Johnathan Cooke explains, the Wests war to maintain its colonial supremacist outpost. But why?
Is it simply for geopolitical interests, economic interests such as “Arab” oil? Or to show the rest of the world it can empower its Zionist puppet state to instil fear and force, to intimidate and silence dissent? It is a display of dominance and coercion, and a warning to the rest of the world of the “Wests” combined power.
This, of course, is a lie laid bare since October 7th, where the West has been found floundering and flailing in a sea of Palestinian blood and resistance. For the US, Starmer and the rest of Europe, after over 21 months, they find their globalist empire strategy exposed to the world. They have neither been able to slaughter and murder all the Palestinians in either Gaza or the West Bank. The resistance is too strong, because the roots of the Palestinians is in the Palestinian land. Haaretz reported recently that up to a million “Israeli Jews” had left “Israel” to return “home”: to Europe, the USA and former Soviet satellite states.
Now, Netanyahu and his Zionist fanatics have thrown the last throw of the dice: intending to invade Gaza from the ground, and aiming to physically occupy Gaza. This is doomed to fail, as the “Israeli” Army “reserves” are neither trained, nor experienced in Guerilla warfare, hand-to-hand combat, or close quarter battle, as are the Palestinian resistance. Many reservists and experienced “Israeli” soldiers are refusing to return or to enlist in the forced drafts.

So, the conclusion to be drawn from this article is that Gaza will become ‘sunset boulevard’, history will whitewash Israeli history and life will continue as normal? We march, write letters and do what we can to denounce Israel AND western actors supporting Israel, particularly Britain, German and the USA because we do not want to see colonial imperialism continuing.
Jonathan Cook understates the way in which Israel influences the West. The power of the Israel Lobby (of Jews and Evangelical Christians) is well documented – see for instance the books by Mearsheimer & Walt (2008) and Ilan Pappe (2024). Anyone who doubts the power of lobbies in America should consider how president after president has been thwarted in attempts to control gun ownership. It isn’t antisemitic to point out the influence of lobbying for Israel. It seems a more convincing explanation for the West’s tolerance of Israeli behaviour than the fact that Western nations did similar things 200 years ago.
That “get out of jail free” card no longer exists amongst the world’s peoples. Their governments are slowly adjusting both to the unremitting horrors of Israel’s actions and the dangers risked by facilitating them.

Over 500 UK peaceable, highly respectable, mainly aged 60 plus protesters have been arrested in Parliament Square for displaying 2 linked messages on home-made signs – “I oppose Israel’s genocide, I support Palestine Action”. Thanks to Yvette Cooper, all protesters risked being imprisoned for up to 14 years. None of them were charged, meaning even the Met Police must have their doubts about the legality of what they’ve been ordered to do. The Met are sensibly doing their best to minimise the future costs to police budgets of paying out compensation for unlawful arrests.
So now Starmer’s government (supported by only 14% UK voters, a staggering collapse in Labour’s vote) faces the huge embarrassment of world-wide, often repeated media coverage of UK citizens being dragged off in front of Parliament for holding up innocuous, home-made signs. Those dangerous terrorists clearly include frail, crippled vicars, magistrates, internationally known protectors of the world’s environment, retired nurses, advisors to the Blair government …,
What is that coverage going to do to the Labour vote at the next local elections and to Starmer’s chances of hanging onto his job?
The Justice Minister may claim the crackdown against Palestine Action supporters will continue, I doubt whether that’s practical. The Met didn’t have enough officers to attend THIS protest, they had to “borrow” large numbers from other forces.
The probable realities are that the protests and the waving of hand-made signs will continue; the police will disengage; and Starmer’s government will appear to be both repressive and weak. Another own goal!
