Personal reflections of an arrestee (for protesting genocide)

JVL Introduction

Jeremy Till is one of more than 500 who were arrested on Saturday 9th August for peacefully, indeed silently, protesting the genocide in Gaza and the proscription of Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000.  There is widespread consensus that this was at the very least a poor use of scant police resources but the government is determined to quash any support for highly targeted direct action.  We must not forget that direct action has been necessary to gain some of the rights we have taken for granted today, rights that are being eroded by this action.

Jeremy Till’s reflections are personal but have huge resonance for all who took, or supported, the action on Saturday. We have today also published a video from the Guardian showing some arrests and also how shocked some passers by were by the police action.

We note also that demonstrations against the proscription are not confined to the UK, with one taking place last week in Wellington (Aoteoroa – New Zealand)
