Israel’s next UK ambassador is a settler extremist

JVL Introduction

Britain’s Jewish establishment is in for a rough ride!

Smooth talking Ambassador Mark Regev, darling of the establishment, was always willing to make up a good story to explain away Israel’s misdemeanours.

His replacement, Tzipi Hotovely, is different. She relishes the misdemeanours – they are simply her government’s policies. She just wishes they’d move faster and further with West Bank annexation.

Even before taking office she has attacked the Board of Deputies of British Jews for – wait for it – including the idea of “a viable Palestinian state” in its 2019 Jewish Manifesto.

For Hotovely this is an outrage.

The Board’s crime: not to consult with Israel in advance! “[A]n organisation that supports the establishment of a Palestinian state is clearly working against Israeli interests.”

It will be interesting to watch Marie van der Zyl’s manoeuvring and squirming as Jews in Britain are treated with such contempt, as the mere instrument of the self-aggrandising Israeli state.

  • If the State of Israel insists on disgracing itself in the UK and alienating the British public, no one should stand in its way. It is a sovereign country after all.
Ms. Khootobali’s habitual boorishness and aggressive deportment are not going to add much leverage to her opinions. The BoD should expect a considerable setback not only in Israel’s image in the UK, but also in their own, having thoughtlessly and subserviently aligned themselves with Netanyahu’s apartheid government. If one adds to the mix their unprecedented hampering British democracy by the bogus Antisemitism campaign against the Labour Party, as well as by dictating the infamous pledges – a major backlash is not unlikely.

  • She talks about the founding of Biblical Israel. In the old testament book of Exodus it says that when Moses looked over at the land of Israel God instructed him that his followers must kill all the Canaanites. who lived there.

  • Further to my last comment on this. It was very strange to see this young person with such a smiling, untroubled expression, trying to justify the final conquest of Palestine by reference to the Bible. Actually I have been told by biblical scholars that there is no actual historical evidence for the events narrated in the book of Exodus.

  • Israel’s government obviously expects the Con government to find this appointment totally acceptable.

  • There will never be a solution to this intractable problem !
Except perhaps to wait, as I do as a religious Jew, for Moshiach when humanity and kindness will prevail with an end to nationalism
