Israel’s ecocide on Lebanon since 2023

JVL Introduction

Lebanon has issued a 106 page report into the impact of Israel’s aggression on the environment in the country; the report does not include damage done since February 28th 2026 but relates to the period from 2023 – 2025.  Lebanon’s Environment Minister, Tamara el Zein says that the physical and ecological landscape has been reshaped.

In the foreword she says: “The scale and intentionality of the damage to forests, agricultural lands, marine ecosystems, water resources, and atmospheric quality constitute what must be recognised as an act of ecocide, with consequences that extend far beyond immediate destruction.” and goes on to note that  “The environmental damage we face is not simply ecological – it is a matter of public health, food security, livelihoods, social fabric, and national resilience.”

This article includes references to some of the specific damage and the number of hectares that have been severely damaged.  The attacks of Spring 2026 will only have made things worse. The situation is horrendous and Israel’s continual claim to always minimise harm to civilians and the environment ring hollow to say the least.
