We’re waiting with baited breathe for the howls of outrage from the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Jewish Labour Movement and the Community Security Trust.

Words failed me (getting a bit boring, I’m afraid…) until I noticed important omissions: the Starmtroopers: Starmer, Nandy, Long-Bailey, Rayner, Evans et hoc genus omne who claim to be appalled by AS. They – and their assiduous fellow witch-hunters – must be confronted by this disgusting muck. (I did watch the Ewige Jude, full-length version, at the National Film Theatre’s informative series in ca 1972. Some of the audience, in their black leather jackets and bovver boots, not to mention badges of a sinister aspect and muttered grunts of approval, were a bit hard to take; nearly as unpleasant as finding myself canvassing a seedy punter with ‘radical anticapitalist ‘views, who turned out to be a leading member of the NF).
Still, these are trivial crosses (!) to bear in Starmer’s ruthless war against Palestinians and socialists and in defence of British capitalism. All the more trivial if you happen to be non-Jewish, or a Zionist, or indeed both.
At the risk of fabricating an anti-Semitic trope, I don’t think that it’s unreasonable to suggest that one thing Jews, across history, have excelled at is a creative flair and a positive cultural influence which has been out of all proportion to our numbers. Though my connection with my own Jewishness is ambivalent – and I would probably be dismissed as a self-hating Kapo by those who employ such language – this cultural heritage is something which does cause me to be proud of my Jewish origins.
How is it therefore that an Israeli politician can produce a propaganda film, so crass and crude, that it looks as though it emanated from North Korea?
This is horrific. But it does not surprise me any more, although it still shocks me to the core. I think the direction of travel is now very visible and evident. We as socialists and internationalists need to stick together and resist. We have to be clear that never again means never again.
If you read any light literature (British or American) of the 1930’s you will find exactly that same portrayal of ‘the Jew’ as the money-grabbing, all controlling swindler. It was the accepted thing in everyday conversation.
Amongst British aristocrats it was universal. The British Fascit movement was led by SIR Oswald Mosely and supported by the King(Edward VIII).
Only the luck of history saved Britain becoming Fascist.
