Islamophobia, Palestine and Zarah Sultana’s safety

Zarah Sultana is the youngest Muslim woman to have been elected to Parliament and is one of the most left wing MPs who has stood consistently for Palestinians’ rights The abuse she has received has risen dramatically since October 7th as she has joined the demands for a ceasefire in Gaza and has spoken on pro Palestinian platform. One example of the abuse is: “Send that b***h to Palestine they are low on targets.”
In September 2021, Ms Sultana spoke (see here) about the Islamophobia she has been subjected to and stated that: “The people spreading this hate don’t just target Muslims. They target Black people, they target Jewish people, they target Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, they target migrants and refugees.
“There is safety in solidarity, and it is only in uniting our struggles that we will defeat racism.” (my emph)
Rather than the unity she called for, we have had the government – backed by the Labour leadership – being dangerously divisive with rabid rhetoric about pro Palestinian activists being “extremists” and marches calling for peace and ceasefire labelled “mobs” making the streets of London “no go areas” for Jewish people.

A day out with Labour MP Zarah Sultana reveals how she constantly has to think about her safety
Ms Sultana, the youngest ever Muslim MP to be elected in the UK, has noticed an uptick in the abuse she has been receiving online since the Hamas attacks on 7 October – and has to take a series of measures to protect herself against potential threats.

Zarah Sultana seems to me to be one of the few truly decent MPs left in Parliament. What is the matter with people? Are they all brainwashed?
Goodness, someone like Ms Sultana must be endowed, God knows how or whence it comes and how it’s sustained, with the most robust faith in human beings to continue working heroically as she does for their welfare. Do the good folk who appreciate people like her, who admire and respect that degree of, I have to say selfless, commitment, outweigh the bad who have only their snarling mean spiritedness to offer.
It reminds me of a quote from my favourite philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, “The pleasure in this world, it has been said, outweighs the pain; or, at any rate, there is an even balance between the two. If the reader wishes to see shortly whether this statement is true, let him compare the respective feelings of two animals, one of which is engaged in eating the other.”
Yes, Schoppy was a pessimist, but who can blame him? Look around the world.
