Interview with maker of the unmissable “Bibi Files” documentary.

This documentary had its premiere in Toronto under tight security and serious concerns (as we published here in September). This interview with film maker Alexis Bloom, who began work before October 7th 2023,  makes for interesting reading about how the film was made and why it matters. She highlighted the difficulties getting this screened but also how documentaries are struggling as distributors seem to want to focus on “entertainment” and True Crime.  As is pointed out by the interviewer, this corruption case is also true crime.

The film seems to be essential viewing; as the destruction and murder continue in Gaza, as the Israeli State bombs and moves further into Syria, the Court Case is finally being heard despite everything Netanyahu has done to delay it and he has now been forced onto the witness stand (you can read more about the proceedings in Ha’aretz, although Tuesday’s proceedings were cancelled because of Netanyahu’s planned tour of Hermon in Syria.

Ha’aretz notes in the introduction to its live coverage of proceedings that: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is testifying in his criminal trial for the fourth time on Wednesday, eight years after the investigations into him were first opened. He faces charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate corruption cases…He is the first sitting prime minister in Israeli history to take the witness stand as a defendant”.  This is the man, together with the whole government, who holds the fate of so many Palestinians in his hands.
