The author Rafael Shimunov was a Jewish refugee from Soviet-dominated Uzbekistan where Jews as a minority among majority Uzbeks, Tajiks, Kazakhs and other Muslims for generations – and where rabbis and imams found interfaith solidarity against Soviet oppression.
Living now in New York Shimunov is active in Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ).
