Gaza: we know people are being starved – and killed.

Aya Al-Hattab writes of the death of her nephew, Hamza, in Gaza City and the impact on her family.  We need to have the imagination and humanity to consider that every single person’s death has a similar deep and lasting impact.

She writes:  “The world cannot pretend that it doesn’t know Gaza has been enduring a devastating famine since March due to Israel’s blockade. More sinister than this, aid distribution points have become death traps for Palestinians. Like Hamza, people are going to seek help, to feed themselves and their loved ones, and instead literally die hungry.”

Alongside this moving personal piece, we recommend looking at two pictorial essays; this on Forced Starvation of Palestinian Children in Gaza from Visualising Palestine and another from the Guardian that focuses on the horrors of risking death while trying to get food, suffering as the writer’s nephew did and notes that more than 1,000 people have been killed in this way. Its title is “Eleven-minute race for food: how aid points in Gaza became ‘death traps’ “.

We must not forget this is happening and that it is a man made famine and that as well as the desperate hunger, the attacks and displacement continue.
