Can Trump’s “ceasefire” plan be rescued?

JVL Introduction

We have shared criticisms of the Trump plan before but one month on, things are looking worrying.  Israel is in full occupation of 58% of Gaza and most seriously are Israel’s many violations of the “ceasefire” agreement. At least 250 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed, many for crossing that invisible demarcation line between the 58% under Israeli control and the 42% where Palestinians are allowe3d to move.  Also less than a quarter of the aid promised has been allowed in by Israel and when trucks are allowed in, too often luxury foods such as chocolate rather than what is essential for nutritional or medical needs are prioritised.

Trump seemed to think he had solved this “intractable” issue but now wants the United Nations, and organisation he has ofen maligned to take on the implementation; but it is not looking promising.

This article outlines some of the reasons why.
