On the face of it, Israel’s choice to lead its defence at The Hague is an odd one.

Before his retirement, Aharon Barak had long headed the very Israeli Court that Netanyahu’s proposed legislation is designed to neuter.

Yet, says Orly Nor of +972, it is hard to think of a better choice!

For, she argues, it is really a continuation of Barak’s life’s mission: using the law to provide a façade that actually legitimises the crimes of “Israeli democracy.”
