Anti-Zionist Jews abused during protest outside synagogue

JVL Introduction

Metropolitan police placed a banning order on a protest organised by Jewish Anti-Zionist Action and Palestine Pulse on November 23, clamping down on their right to oppose an event held in the St John’s Wood synagogue promoting Zionist recruitment of settlers to occupy Palestinian land.

The Canary article we publish below quotes JAZA member Talia Woodin explaining their reasons for protesting outside a synagogue:

It is heartbreaking for us. But we cannot stand by while our places of worship are used for such abhorrent means

A statement from the group, which is based on members’ religion and traditions, said they were shocked that the synagogue was continuing to host events sponsored by the Israeli government in the midst of the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

The police banning order also applied to a counter-protest organised by pro-Israel groups, but it did not prevent them from hurling racist and antisemitic abuse at Jews whose peaceful action included a Ma’ariv evening prayer service. The “Campaign Against Antisemitism” condemned them as “Palestine thugs” and the Board of Deputies of British Jews called on the police for protection against “bullies and hooligans.”

As usual they resorted to weaponising antisemitism to serve the Zionist cause, promoting the idea that Jews are unsafe because of pro-Palestinian protest.

Naturally they made no reference to the death and destruction being visited upon the Palestinian people by the state whose illegal actions they support.
