A culture war against critical thinking in the US
JVL Introduction
Critical race theory developed as a way of looking at the role law has played in enabling racial inequality in the States. As more and more voter suppression measures are introduced, you’d think it hard to dispute that it had played some role!
Instead, utter lies and distortions of the theory are propounded – such as Ted Cruz saying “Critical race theory says every white person is a racist” or Pat Robertson simply calling it “a monstrous evil.”
Ibram X. Kendi has sometimes been called the father of critical race theory.
Writing in The Atlantic, he argues that Republican operatives have “conjured an imagined monster to scare the American people and project themselves as the nation’s defenders from that fictional monster.”
They don’t bother to read what critical voices have been saying. They simply fabricate scare stories to divide Americans and preserve privilege…
