Israel is severing the Jordan Valley from the West Bank

JVL Introduction

How many more ways can Israel think to torment and oppress the Palestinian people? This article from February is timely as the plans it are becoming more real by the day and this is the impact.  A new wall  (the Crimson Thread) is under construction that will stretch 300 miles from the occupied Golan Heights to the Red Sea.  This will effectively cut off the Jordan Valley, c, 30% of the West Bank from the rest of it.  If there is still anyone clinging to the idea that a two State “solution” is possible, this surely ends that illusion.

Initially Israel’s High Court disapproved but in March approved the plans on security grounds. Israel already controls most the Jordan Valley as it is part of that 61% of the West Bank, designated for a further 5 years of Israeli control ie until the year 2000(!) after which there was to have been a Palestinian state.  But some of this annexation includes land in Area B, supposedly under Palestinian control for all civil matters. To that control (aka brutal military occupation) Israel uses bureaucratic measures, in this case deciding register lands in the West Bank as “state property” even though many Palestinians have proof that the land is theirs.

Few States seem to have raised strong objections , let alone introduced any sanctions on a government that is behaving against international law and committing war crimes and genocide.

Israel’s new separation wall will sever Jordan Valley from rest of West Bank

The army is issuing evacuation orders and seizing land to prepare a massive barrier — part of a wider project to annex the Palestinian ‘breadbasket.’
