How Jewish supremacy is taught in Israeli classrooms

JVL Introduction

Nurit Peled-Elhanan has carried out detailed research into how the Israeli education system is also a propaganda tool – although she also notes in this interview that most countries’ school books are biased in the interests of the State too. Key is that in Israeli text books, the are only Arabs, no Palestinians  and that they are a problem to be solved or managed so that occupation seems necessary and also ordinary. The violence and, indeed, the genocide, is built on this teaching. As she says in this podcast interview:

“I think a few weeks ago, some of these pogromists said, “You educated us that they are a problem to be solved. So we’re solving it.” He actually said that. I don’t think there is much difference. Of course, today it’s more extreme, it’s more vulgar, it’s more blatant, but the attitude has always been there.”

The conversation is wide ranging and, of course, conducted in the context of October 7th and the genocide that followed. All terrorist attacks are linked to the Holocaust and even described as a Shoah and that it is necessary for the State to keep people traumatised.  By contrast, much less is taught about Zionism and the founding of the State of Israel. And she also notes that most countries also teach with bias towards their own State.
