Israel destroys a Tehran synagogue (where is the western media?)

JVL Introduction

On Tuesday 7th April, Israel bombed Tehran and demolished a synagogue.  The local Jewish community, the largest in the Middle East outside Israel,  were furious with Israel and were clear that this, among other actions, demonstrated that Israel is not concerned about the well being of Jews.  The Rabbi and a former and current Jewish Member of the Iranian parliament made clear that they do not support Israel and live happily alongside their majority Muslim neighbours.

Perhaps it is not remarkable that this happened and also that this has been almost entirely ignored by the western press.  It was covered by the Canary (see Head of Iran’s Jewish community calls Israel ‘shameful’  where you can see a video and several comments from X but we can only wonder why such an event was of such little interest to the western media.

Below is the report from Al Jazeera and two short videos posted on YouTube.

  • I don’t know if this is true or no since I am not Iranian and neither a Jew. However, a Iranian friend (Muslim) maintains that unlike in Europe and the US when attacks on synagogues and the Jewish communities have increased since the war in Gaza, no a single attack to a synagogue, Jewish grave yard or against the Jewish community has been register in Iran.
If would be good if an investigation into this subject could be conducted so that the general public can move from thinking that Iran wishes to exterminate the Jews and Israel is acting as the saviours of the Jews.

  • We somehow missed this synagogue destruction being called antisemitism by our establishment politicians echoed by our mainstream media.

  • Yes it is strange isn’t it. Now if the Iranian regime had destroyed the synagoguge in an anti-Semitic fit of temper then the air would have been thick with accusations of anti-Semitism from our friends in the Board of Deputies, CAA, UKLFI, CST, JLM and all the other ‘anti-Semitism’ acronyms.

Yet there is a strange silence. It is as if the cat got their tongues and we can understand why.

Israel boasts of its precision guided missiles, able to take out a room in a block of flats so we can assume that this was a deliberately targeted strike. The question is why.

The answer is easy to understand. There can be nothing the Zionists hate more than the Jewish presence at the heart of a regime which according to their definition is the incarnation of anti-Semitic evil.

Hence the attack on Rafi-Nia mirrors the bombing by Zionist agents of the Masuda Shemtov synagogue in Baghdad 75 years ago.

In essence this is an example of a little know foundational concept of Zionism – the Negation of the Diaspora. Fundamental to Zionism is the belief in the winding up of the ‘accursed Galut’. Of course this concept had to be amended in the light of realpolitik. Diaspora Jewish communities were useful as adjuncts to support for Zionism but in Iran’s case the community has no such function. Hence it should go and the bombing of their synagogue is a ‘reminder’ that their place is not in Iran.

  • According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency “On Tuesday, the Israeli prime minister’s office issued a statement about the alleged damage to the Rafi-Niya synagogue. “Iran is firing missiles at civilians, Israel is striking terror infrastructure,” it said. “Missiles on civilians versus precision strikes on terror targets. That’s the difference.”

    Apparently that makes it OK.
