When genocide denial is the norm
JVL Introduction
Genocide scholar Martin Shaw writes that the stakes are high.
It is becoming impossible for Western states to continue their denial of the catastrophe that is Gaza, the genocide that is unfolding on their watch and with their complicity.
They have many reasons for trying to avoid breaking their commitment to Israel and its US protector and will continue to do little to stop the genocide.
But, argues Shaw, their changing rhetoric plus growing criticism inside Israel itself, offers real opportunities to the anti-genocide movement.
The call should be nothing less than “breaking with Israel,” a comprehensive boycott that matches the horror of the genocide.
We must make ending the Gaza genocide the new raison d’état in every country that claims to represent human values.
