Staying in Motion: Jewish Voice for Peace takes stock

Arielle Angel, editor-in-chief of Jewish Currents reports on the important Jewish Voice for Peace national meeting held in Baltimore in May that drew together over 2,000 people from 45 states.
The movement faces major external threats with JVP high on the list of targets in the broad effort to criminalise pro-Palestinian activism.
At the same time it also had face the fact that “the short-term is really hard”. For all its lobbying and direct action interventions the reality is that “we don’t know how to end the genocide”.”
Angel provides an insightful account of the dynamics of a movement engaging with and negotiating the tensions and challenges it faces, both internally and externally.
What was expressed, she says, was “a militant commitment to Palestinian liberation complemented by a softer approach to relationships, oriented toward bringing people along”.
