Campaigning for justice in Gaza is part of the class struggle
JVL Introduction
Writing on the morning of the last national march for a ceasefire in Gaza, the end of occupation and justice for all, Kevin Ovenden reflects on the growth of the movement as part of the overall class struggle and the widespread disillusion with politicians and the political system. What we have is a totemic struggle…”Palestine is concentrating a lack of trust in politicians and in Labour especially that is felt over many other issues. The polling that shows high nominal support for Labour also shows historic lows over whether people think a Labour government will mean a positive difference in their lives.”
The widespread disillusion for and lack of trust of politicians and the political system carries opportunities as well as risks for socialists and we need to be ready but we must remember that it is the movement, not politicians and despite increasing threats that has changed the narrative on Gaza and on Israel as an apartheid and now genocidal state. We can do this with other key issues as well.

Rebellion over Gaza: the British left strikes back
The protest movement that has exploded onto the streets and inside the Labour Party in response to British complicity with Israel’s crimes is not a distraction from class politics – it’s the way forward.

There’s a book by Scott Ritter: “Waging Peace – The Art of War for the Anti-War Movement” in which he argues that to be effective, the left has to unite and deploy the “enemy`s” tools and tactics to destroy them. In our case, the “Enemy” is the British State, with its ongoing proactive support for the racist, apartheid, settler-colonial, imperialist Zionist entity, called “Israel”. The last three months have opened the eyes of many to what really lies behind the politicians and the real interests they represent. On the ground, there is a spontaneous swell of resistance to Capitalist Politics and its support for the arms trade and demonization of those who dare to stand up to it.
Even though another Palestinian dies every time we post comments, the movement worldwide is making a huge difference, and making it harder and harder for genocide enablers like Starmer to stand up and justify industrial murder by the Zionists. This war has exposed cracks and divisions across the world, especially in those countries who claim hegemony, “The West “. Never again, will politics be the same and never again in our name, will Starmer, his Labour Party or the establishment be able to pull the wool over our eyes. We are in a war, an ideological war, against the warmongers. We must use their weapons to equip our fighters and be equipped to take them on wherever they are.
Agonizingly too late to save scores of Palestinians but at long last more action to block Israel’s supply of arms …
