Starmer’s Never Never Land
JVL Introduction
None of our readers will be much surprised by Keir Starmer’ vacuous growth, growth, growth programme for Britain’s economy as analysed by Dave Kellaway in Anti*Capitalist Resistance recently. [You can see the text of Starmer’s speech here.]
But it is good to have it spelt out: capitalism is friendly, business waiting to do its bit, profit the best guide to suitable investment. Of course there are some bad guys, but they’re on the fringes. Capitalism leads to growth and growth is good.
But what if it isn’t? What if capitalist growth leads to heightened exploitation and inequality? What if it accelerates the rush to climate disaster?
Our job is to expose the Never Never Land of Starmer’s politics by supporting all the struggling against the system now.

I can’t remember where I read it….it may even have been on the this site…but for Capitalism to be succesful anywhere, 60% of the population have to be in poverty. Nothing more needs to be said.
Growth, Growth, Growth. (KS) Green New Deal, Green New Deal, Green New Deal. (JC)
Audrey White’s impassioned stream of truth encapsulated the disgusting actions of KS as leader left him stunned and unable to respond, leaving it to a minder to attempt (unsuccessfully) to halt her venting her heartfelt feelings . She beautifully summed up my, and surely the beliefs of thousands of other party members and LP voters. Incidentally she was being handled physically by that minder even as he denied ‘touching’ her. That footage shown on twitter showed an assault and would be grounds for court action. There won’t be many more opportunities for members of the public to confront KS as he will follow the BoZo-style of avoiding such possibilities. Another stark contrast with how JC campaigned.
Our realities & values are being increasingly redefined by Starmer’s ‘go to’ new chum, Rupert Murdoch. ‘The Big Lies’ are disguised & promoted as progressive Capitalism but economies cannot always continue to grow in this Brave New World of Climate Change. We need major surgery to save the world, not just a sticking plaster as politicians always promise the earth & offer packages of cheap short-term solutions, but in reality ‘s/he who pays the piper calls the tune’…………….who are the big political paymasters?
“Keir’s latest excuse for dumping his notorious ten ‘continuity Corbyn’ pledges to secure the leadership is that the pandemic now means common ownership of the utilities is no longer possible. There is no magic money tree.”
And yet, Shadow Defence Secretary John Healey is allowed free reign to make spending commitments when it comes to increases in the U K military budget—already one of the biggest in the world.
Less that two years ago, Healey backed a government announcement of a big increase and, just recently, he attacked the government for allegedly still not spending enough!
Reactionary politicians often love high military spending because, whilst it stimulates the economy, it does not redistribute wealth. Spending money on, say, building houses would redistribute wealth and so is opposed for that very reason.
