Pressure: Mililband opposes and Reeves supports more North Sea drilling

By Leah Levane

In their article, in Democracy for Sale, Lucas Amin and Peter Geoghegan, describe the way Offshore Energy UK (OEUK), acting for oil companies, including Shell and BP, have managed to partially reverse policies on North Sea extraction of oil and gas in both Holyrood and Westminster. By sleight of hand Labour now allows companies to extend extraction in existing fields. OEUK meets with Labour government ministers more than once a week.

Poland Investigates Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla

By Leah Levane

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) welcomes the decision by Polish prosecutors to open an investigation into the October 2025 attack by Israeli forces on the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF). This development marks a significant step toward accountability for attacks on unarmed civilian humanitarian missions. HRF, in partnership with two injured parties and members of KAKTUS … Continued

While we look at Iran, is Israel going to resume the genocide in Gaza?

By Leah Levane

The world has moved on from Gaza, as though there really was a ceasefire, as though aid was pouring in and reconstruction underway. Now the world is looking at Iran – after all the closure of the Straits of Hormuz has a direct impact on the cost of living in our own countries.  But Israel IS planning to resume its assault on Gaza. Also the reality is between October 2025 and 10th April 2026 Israel has killed 738 Palestinians in Gaza, more have been killed since then and many more injured.

Refusal is courage and obedience a nightmare

By Leah Levane

Former Knesset Speaker Avrum Berg urges his grandchildren to refuse to fight. “The entire national education is turned inward, a nationalist narcissism that seeks to erase the existence of the others, that denies the memories, the wounds and the dreams of the Palestinians. And that denial is the mother of all sins, the force that has turned a great civilization into a contemptible barbarism.”

Billionaire death cult has its fingers round humanity’s throat

By Leah Levane

George Monbiot reflects on what he calls the “biggest news of the century” – the accelerating danger of the collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current due to a heating climate. He tries to nail those most responsible for driving environmental desecration – the rich with “billionaire brain” who are willing to “sack the planet for a few more stones on their mountain of wealth.” Many of these, including Bill Gates, attach themselves to the climate change denying and future devaluing economics of William Nordhaus. Other economists recognise that the flipping of the AMOC would leave “scarcely an economy left to measure”. So, Monbiot asks, “why is this not all over the news?”

Labour Together – destroying evidence

By Leah Levane

Labour Together – ‘the think tank that made Keir Starmer’ hired APCO (“a global advisory and advocacy firm helping clients navigate a complex world and create a lasting impact”) to investigate journalists as part of the campaign to smear journalists who reported on the £700,000+ in funding that was not declared, used to fund Keir Starmer’s  campaign to be Labour leader.

Parallel Time – for a Palestinian imprisoned by Israel

By Leah Levane

Walid Daqqa was a Palestinian philosopher, political theorist, playwright, and armed resistance fighter. Despite evidence to the contrary, Daqqa was accused, charged, and convicted of involvement in a 1984 PFLP operation that captured and killed an Israeli soldier, for which he was sentenced to life by the Zionist entity in 1986 and subsequently languished, imprisoned until his death on April 7, 2024 (al-Shaikh 2021a, 276). The text presented here was penned in 2005 in Gilboa Prison, on the first day of his twentieth year behind bars.

Being Jewish – and anti-Zionist – in Iran

By Leah Levane

The largest Jewish community in West Asia (Middle East) outside of Israel is in Iran. They (or certainly the majority) disapprove of the State of Israel and what it does, in common with most Iranians. This is a rare insight into life and opinions for Iranian Jews; life isn;t perfect but the “embattlement” referred to in the Guardian’s own title is not from the Iranian government or people but from Israel and the USA.

Palestinians, Geopolitics and Psychiatry

By Leah Levane

It is almost impossible to imagine the mental health impact of the genocide in Gaza, the total lack of justice for all Palestinians.  “The psychological toll of Gaza’s decades of conflict and occupation is profound, with adults and children alike enduring depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and the chronic stress of living under constant threat.”  This is no post traumatic stress disorder for there is no “post” but rather “continuous traumatic stress,”…shaped…by the relentless rhythm of violence, displacement, and loss.”

British Jews are fleeing Britain – or are they?

By Leah Levane

This article examines the facts about British Jews emigrating to Israel and concludes that there has been a marginal increase from a very small percentage, but this is not what viewers would have discovered from that programme, which also omitted the fact that almost as many Jewish Israelis have settled in the UK as British Jews have left to live in Israel – and that is not fully taking into account the numbers who are leaving Israel in the wake of the war on  Gaza and especially the war on Iran.
