Michael Rosen has the amazing ability to write in the immediate wake of events. Rabbi Herschel Gluck OBE on Radio 4’s Sunday (29th December 2024) making a plea for compassion and for action by the UK government so that all the children of Gaza can be saved. No death or suffering of a child can be collateral damage. Rabbi Gluck’s mother was a kinder transport survivor from the horrors in Austria. The Palestinian Authority placed Jenin Camp under siege in early December, began raids 10 days later. “Although this is not the first such PA campaign against Jenin camp, it is the first during Israel’s war on Gaza” and amid (more than 80) Israeli raids on the camp over the past year, resulting in more than 220 deaths and thousands of injuries, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.” The PA has also suppressed Al Jazeera from reporting on what is happening there.

We must keep Gazans in our thoughts as the daily horrors inflicted on them by the Israeli army and government every day are again intensifying. Reflecting on this week’s Torah portion on Joseph’s imprisonment in Egypt, Rabbi Rosen enjoins us to use the suffering of Gaza to also remember all those incarcerated in his America and globally.
