Why We Made the film “Naza” and what it tells us

JVL Introduction

Written shortly before the premiere in Venice, Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham wrote for +972 about why the film matters, what they learned, some of which shocked them and questions for now and for the future.  Some are the same questions asked about the Nazi genocide of the Jews and of many other atrocities – how can one person do this to another human being?

Telling the truth is dangerous it seems; a more recent +972 article  notes the reaction has included: PM “…Netanyahu and Culture Minister Miki Zohar have threatene to revoke the directors’ citizenship. Government and opposition figures alike have accused them of “treason” and labeledd them “enemies” of the state…(and) The military is also reportedly considering legal action against those involved in the film….far-right activists… have staged protests… outside the houses of the filmmakers’ families, chanting “Death penalty for traitors.” A large mural showing Yuval and Rachel’s faces emblazoned with the word “Traitors” and surrounded by crosshairs appeared in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod; videos of its creation that were posted online drew hundreds of inciting comments, including calls for their murder.”

Here they write about the making of the film, why they did it and why it matters.
