!And how do we separate anti-Jewish rhetoric from criticism of the state of Israel and its policies?! For my money the first thing one does to solve this issue is to allow the discussion on Israel to take place, no jaw jaw, no solution.
There does not appear to be any evidence of anti-Semitism here in the North West of Britain (Liverpool), but according to my Jewish friends there is a perception in the Jewish Community that they may be blamed for the genocide in Palestine and the actions of Netanyahu’s gov’t.
I agree with John Noble.
According to the IHRA definition of anti Semitism I am an anti Semite because I believe that Israel is a Racist Endeavour and I deny that White Europeans have a “right of self determination” in the Middle East.
But in fact one of the main reasons I reject Zionism is because it is the politics of despair. I want my Jewish sisters and brothers to feel safe, valued and welcome in Britain and I recognise how much Britain loses when our Jews decide to go and live Israel.
I was very moved by the recent JVL organized Seder and it made me realize that us non Jews have almost lost touch with the Socialist, non Zionist Judaism that was such a vital strand in building the left in this country.
Keir Starmer of all people wants to silence that radical Jewish voice and we must all fight shoulder to shoulder to prevent that happening.
