Vote Cllr Jo Bird And Cllr Matt White For NEC
JVL Introduction
In elections starting today, Jo Bird and Matt White are standing together to represent local councillors on the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee.
The video below outlines their vision for socialism in local government.
Below that we reproduce Jo’s article in Labour Briefing where she writes about her family’s radical Jewish traditions and her commitment to fair and just disciplinary processes inside the party and socialist responses to the external challenges posed by coronavirus, unemployment, systemic racism and climate change.

Why I am standing for socialism in local government

I would vote for you if I was a councillor and will tell others to.
Hooray for brave Jo! I agree with you so much. I continue to wish you well.
I hope for justice, socialism, fairness and honesty within our Labour Party.
This article serves as a reminder that ordinary Labour Party members have been deprived of the opportunity to vote again for Jo Bird in the NEC elections (supposedly for the greater good.) For those who share my disappointment the “Open letter to JVL officers” on Tony Greenstein’s blog points out that there are nine votes for each member, and suggests candidates whose viewpoints may be close to what Jo represents.
In response to Edward, JVL’s position on the election is precisely that – after listing preferences 1-6 for the Grassroots Voice Six, cast 7th and subsequent preferences for other principled socialist candidates.
