Stand Up for Palestine and Be Counted

JVL Introduction

This blog post was written after attending a powerful meeting about anti Palestinian racism. The free speech warriors at Meta (Facebook) took it down, so we are pleased to post this.  The strong request from the speaker was that we wear our support for Palestine as a way of showing support to the people and opposition to racism.

Why I am wearing that Palestinian badge today

  • Great post — I’m going to share it with friends in Bradford particularly (but not only there) who face continual silencing, threats to their livelihood and more, if they suggest the slightest solidarity with Palestinians or pain about Gaza. Many thanks to brave social media users and to JVL for sharing their posts when they have been taken down.

  • FB and X are stopping many posts that condemn Israel or telling the truth about the crimes they are committing. X resorted to drop the number of followers by around 10 or 12 after each Tweet, going down by 120 in around 10 or so days. I guess they thought that I’d be so upset at losing followers I would stop tweeting negative posts about Israel. 🙄

  • I’m really glad that the ‘small’ gesture of wearing a Palestine badge has been mentioned here. Not only does every single jacket of mine have a Free Palestine badge on it, but I always carry extras in my purse because I have had so many people – strangers – say to me that they ‘like’ or totally ‘agree’ with the badge (with not anything more than the occasional dirty look from a Zionism supporter). It also then sometimes leads to conversations in the bus or the tube or the coffee shop, where others can hear Roshan spouting off about the real news as opposed to the MSM pap. I’m neither Muslim, Arab or Palestinian but not white either and live in the salubrious/sleepy suburbs of Surrey – not exactly a hotbed of revolutionary fervour. So yes, keep the message alive with that little 50 pence badge!
