Palestine Solidarity has changed Britain: and there is more work to do

JVL Introduction
There is a lot to recognise in the solidity of the Palestine Solidarity Movement, especially in the UK. Here there is recognition of how diverse the movement is – and JVL even gets a mention (albeit with our old name) – but it is much wider than this as many campaigning groups eg for climate justice or for free speech, are joining the dots. “Solidarity has evolved from moral outrage to coalition building, linking the Palestinian struggle to broader struggles against inequality, racism, and ecological injustice.”
However, this writer warns, “…this is not victory. It is promising momentum that has shifted the conversation and produced concrete change. Yet, Gaza’s suffering continues, and international accountability remains incomplete. Broad coalitions must guard against fragmentation, movements must institutionalise gains into durable legal, political and economic pressure points, and defenders of civil liberties must ensure the space for dissent is not eroded by repression.”
There is much to do but much to build from.

From solidarity to action: How Palestine remade Britain for good
Support for Palestine in the UK has sparked change throughout society. But protests must not be the endgame, but the engine for action, writes Ismail Patel.

A good resume of what has gone on to support Palestine, some of which I was not aware of. How are we going to inform the ‘Know nots’ when our msm is so powerful in keeping the truth from the main stream public?

In Soviet Russia, dissidents produced and circulated their own “samizdat” newsletters, word of mouth and the help of trusted journalists from the foreign media to pass onto their neighbours the news the official press censored (or lied about). They couldn’t reach a lot of the population – but they reached enough people to keep truth alive.
I think that’s what more and more of us are doing now, having largely given up on media like the BBC and the “Guardian” to cover topics inconvenient to powerful individuals. I only discovered JVL by Googling for information not covered by my usual sources (two major UK newspapers and R4).
I’m now one of the many small-scale distributors of Gaza related news published by reputable foreign and specialist media to UK (and some other) audiences. A lot more of us are needed. We can’t ” tell truth to power” unless we know what the truth actually is.
