Letter to The Guardian: language matters…
JVL Introduction
The differential choices of language in reporting the war on Gaza have often been noted: Israelis are murdered while Palestinians simply die.
Here a short, open letter to the Guardian calls on it “to stop using [such] obfuscatory language when reporting on Israeli military attacks on civilians”.

So now, as was the intention, the starving inhabitants of Gaza who are desperate for food will be afraid of being killed whenever they try to get food from a convoy of lorries delivering aid. And given that it’s mainly the man of the family who will go to fetch whatever they can in the way of food, then their wives and children will be sick with worry every time they do. How many children lost their father last week in the blatant massacre?!
The sadism of BN and the Israeli fascists knows no bounds! It’s just pure evil.
yes indeed but what can you expect of the Guardian which helped front the false anti-Semitism attacks? The Guardian is unfortunately complicit in what is happening and it has not yet called for an unconditional and immediate ceasefire.
Only the FT has done that.
The way the ‘guardian’, eagerly pounced on, decimated and profited by stories of US malfeasance in its Iraq war originally broadcast by Julian Assange on Wikileaks, only to completely abandon, smear and attack him during the nearly twelve years of his persecution and imprisonment tells me it is only worth use in a lavatory! And not, nature forbid, to be read there. Calling on it to do anything that might not be on the same page as the billionaire establishment would be like asking the Pope to give up Catholicism!
When it comes to obfuscatory language being used to cover Israeli atrocities, the BBC is the worst, when it should be completely unbiased.
To keep calling it ‘a War’ alone twists the facts. Hamas has Rifles and Rockets that are randomly firing, at their best they can make a hole in a tiled roof, whereas Israel has a Modern, Fully Armed Military, including all the latest Weaponry, missiles with pinpoint accuracy that can blow up a complete Block of Flats, mosques, Hospitals, Schools etc. Israel has dropped 65.000 tonnes of bombs on Gaza, killing 35.000 deaths and that’s not counting the bodies buried by the Collapsed Buildings. This is definitely not a War, it’s a Genocidal Massacre, nothing less.
It is about time that someone challenged the Zionist narrative.
