Jewish Voices support boycott of Sydney Festival

JVL Introduction

JVL is pleased to add our name and to share this Jewish response to the boycott of the Sydney Festival.  c. 100 artists have said that they will boycott the prestigious festival in response to the sponsorship by the Israeli Embassy. We stand in support of Palestinians and, as internationalists, in solidarity with our Jewish comrades in Australia who are supporting the boycott.  We – and they – know that it will lead to accusations and opprobrium but it is important and necessary.  Boycott is a peaceful means to campaign against Israel’s occupation of Palestine and treatment of Palestinians.  You can add your own support here as individuals and as organisations.

This part, clearly written from an Australian perspective is very much in line with our principles:  “Solidarity works. Countering colonialism – wherever and whenever it occurs – works. We are dedicated to working alongside Indigenous people everywhere, to amplifying their voices and knowledge in the fight against colonialism. “

  • As an Anglo-Australian Jew,I give my full support to this boycott of the Sydney Festival. Zionists were loudly active in Sydney for the twenty years When I lived there and Independent Jewish Voices were regularly under attack. But they refused to be cowed by the Zionists and regularly espoused the cause of Palestinians and indigenous Australians. Solidarity to you all.

  • This is a good step in the right direction. I hope that others join in, especially sportsmen and sportswomen, followed by their organisations, it was a major part of the pressure on South Africa to change.
