“A kosher and modest Jewish genocide”

JVL Introduction

All governments try to manage their messages but the Israeli government, military and mainstream media are determined to hide the whole truth through language that obfuscates or minimises the reality.  As said here:  “We feed on propaganda. The information provided to us is not chosen according to what we need to know, but according to what television wants us to know. They’re right. The last thing we want to know is how many 10 year olds were killed in Gaza, in Lebanon, or by exploding pagers. Any such information is psychological terror that damages our fighting spirit and lowers morale.”

Of course, the western media do the same thing; we hear that Israelis are killed, even massacred, by Hamas, but Palestinians die or if they are killed their killers are rarely named. In the UK we are almost obliged to hear that Hamas and Hezbollah are backed by Iran but not that Israel is backed by the USA, UK, Germany and so on.

In this age of social media and a livestreamed genocide, ignorance is also a choice.  Klein’s apparently cynical take is also laced with despair.

  • Klein’s well-chosen, savage words say it all.

Like many, I’m scared that Israel will only be brought to account for its misdeeds sometime after it’s done irrevocable harm to the Palestinians, Lebanese and the other populations of the Middle East.

Legal and diplomatic moves to stop Israel’s genocide and war crimes are underway but so far their impact has been feeble.

Perhaps the markets will act faster? “Haaretz” reported 27/9/24 that “Moody’s double-notch downgrade of Israel on Friday positions Israeli government bonds just three rungs above the “junk” rating”. Please let that mean Israel’s government will now find it much harder to fund war on its neighbours and the repression of its angry citizens.

  • Linda, as long as the US is prepared to give Israel billions if additional military aid every month (USD 20BN in August, 7.8BN in September) , and Israel’s billionaire backers can no doubt contribute a lot more than they do, shortage of money for their war will never be an issue. Somehow, running out of money is rarely a reason for ending a war in modern times. Because someone, somewhere can make a profit from it. It’s not like ancient times where the war had to stop when the treasury was literally empty.

If only there was as much money for making peace.

That said, I noticed an Israeli-owned bank was offering the leading rates for Savers in the UK on fixed deposits today, so they must be keen on getting more. As long as you stick to be £85,000 fscs limit, the UK government will reimburse you if the bank goes under. However, I doubt that many reading this will want to finance Israel with their loan deposits.

  • Stop the oxygen getting to Israel, in other words stop the fuel getting there which is what Yemen is trying to do by attacking the fuel ships. Full BDS is what is needed.

  • Where will the refugees go? To a Europe where the ground has been prepared for them by well funded populist grifters? Where the disaster of financialisation is looking for a different scapegoat this time? If genocide and it’s accompanying tropes become normalised, what’s to stop it spreading? How could it be done? First of all, not all coastguards are as enlightened as our RNLI. And by the end of next year certain individuals could be dog whistling that anyone who steps “out of line” ( with you know who) should have their property confiscated. And there will be plenty gagging for the goodies. Seems cynical but these days one learns that it’s hard to be cynical enough. It’s funny how those who putport to love their country the most seem preoccupied with dragging it to the very bottom of an ever deepening cesspit. Wherever the refugees go, their rights to return and for reparations must never be forgotten.
