Iranian Trade Unions statement on bombing their country

JVL Introduction

This morning we woke up to the news of a fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel. An immediate ceasefire is one of the demands in this statement by Independent Trade Unions in Iran, issued to address “the current unstable and dangerous situation in Iran and the wider region,…”  They call for our ongoing solidarity, as is their right and our duty.

Here is yet another example of those who oppose the Iranian government and the system under the Ayatollahs and the Military, also opposing the bombing of their country.  Many of them have taken huge risks and even suffered directly at the hands of that regime, but they are clear that US and Israeli attacks are not the way to liberation.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) solidarity network has also published a short Statement from Iranians in exile in the UK, opposing the war in Gaza and in Iran, that we are sure will also be of interest.

  • I attended the University and College Union Southern Region Retired branch meeting today (25 June 2025). We passed *nem con* (without dissent) a motion entitled “No support for Israel’s attack on Iran, end the genocide in Gaza”. The calls to action were: 1. To call on the UK government not to provide any military, material or diplomatic support for an attack on Iran,
2. To campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel
, 3. To urge members to join local and national anti-war demonstrations as well as the workplace day of action for Palestine on 2 July.
