Antisemitism weaponised in Chile
JVL Introduction
The leaders of Chile’s Jewish community are, according to the author of the article below, Zionist “to the point of declaring that there are no Jews who are not Zionists”.
So their response to Presidential candidate for the left, Daniel Jadue, who is also part of the local Palestinian community, has not been surprising. Accusations of antisemitism abound.
Claudio Mandler, part of a local Jewish group supporting Jadue responds : “We are convinced that the attacks on him and the bad faith accusations against him are fueled by opposition to his political and economic policies, under the guise of concern for Chilean Jews.”
Sound familiar?
The elections are in November and the campaign has just kicked off – we certainly haven’t heard the end of the story.

I understand that Chile’s Palestinian community is very large, in the hundreds of thousands, and prosperous – as are people of Palestinian descent living elsewhere in Latin America. It could provide Jadue with a massive support-base. I would be interested to know if they are standing behind Jadue, or keeping their heads down.
