A left-wing Jewish group is taking legal action against the Labour Party

JVL Introduction

As part of its #FactOfTheMatter series, the Canary is highlighting growing discontent in Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.

This report focuses on JVL’s very own case against the Party as well as describing the Labour Activists for Justice campaign which we are supporting.

All this is placed in a wider context of simmering discontent, including among MPs and the Labour in Exile Network, with its call for an “alternative” Labour Party conference in February 2021.

This article was originally published by the Canary on Wed 13 Jan 2021. Read the original here.

  • Norman Thomas spoke well and in a measured manner at the last physical Conference I recall (we were in the same row in the gallery; I was quite chuffed to gather he was from the next-door CLP.
    Best of luck to him…

  • The A/S smear campaign first really kicked off with totally false and contrived attack on Ken Livingstone, with bucket-loads of faux outrage to ‘cement’ their malicious and vexatious accusations against him. And it is of course no coincidence that Ken just happened to be one of the most high profile – if not the MOST high profile – ally of Jeremy’s. And THAT is why he was targeted of course!

As you may know – and as reported by skwawkbox yesterday – Ken is taking legal action against the EHRC over ‘harassment’ claim and a right to free speech, along with Pam Bromley who was also named in the so-called report:

    https://skwawkbox.org/2021/01/14/livingstone-bromley-take-legal-action-against-ehrc-over-harassment-claim-and-right-to-free-speech/

Whilst doing some research yesterday in relation to Ken (for a comment I wanted to post on skwawkbox) I happened to come across an article in the Daily Mirror published on the 28th of April 2016 with the following headline and sub-headline:

‘Why I called Ken Livingstone a ‘Nazi apologist’ by Labour MP John Mann’

‘Ken Livingstone claimed Hitler wanted to move the Jews to Israel in 1932 to help the cause of Zionism. No he didn’t’

Mann’s relatively short ‘article’ contains a number of falsehoods – all concocted and contrived to discredit and smear Ken of course – as you can see from just the sub-headline. And it is of course no coincidence that Mann just happened to write such a piece for the Daily Mirror, the majority of whose readers are Labour Party voters. I ended up posting a lengthy post on skwawkbox in respect of Mann’s article (including a link to the article) AND his falsehoods, and the following link takes you directly to my post (which is right at the bottom of the Comments section):

  • I wonder how many Party Members are being ‘investigated’ – as well as those Sisters & Brothers already suspended & worse. On Dec 01, I was informed of my investigation & case number 6642. A date of Dec 16 was given as to whether zi’d be referred to the NEC. Just before Dec 16, i was told i was being subjected to ‘further investigation’ until January 17, 2021 (no futher contact details for the Samsritans or my GP – as if they were n’t busy enough). I am a rank & file Party Member in New Ferry, Wirral. I have never stood for a Labour Party Office. I have tried to raise funds for Palestinian Children (efforts usually blocked on Facebook with much subsequent distress). I have written to my MP – Alison McGovern twice (receiving no reply). One of the charges against me alleged I’ve brought the ‘Party into disrepute ‘ – as well as ‘anti-Semitism & promoting genocide'(!). I am a 61 year-old veteran of Anti-nazi League experience. “Stay Srong, Friends”.

  • I’m still a democratic socialist and NOTHING Starmer (scammer) Rayner or the unelected Evans Can do about that, I’m still in the party because I won’t let them take my voice away like they did for a year before.
I continue to be a Palestinian supporter and a TRUE supporter of Jeremy Corbyn and PJP SOLIDARITY FOREVER.

  • Labour in Exile is a great name, and it’s a positive place for victimised members to remain engaged whilst fighting back , on everyone’s behalf, in defence of free speech and a left alternative in British politics…. No small role !

Importantly though, it also be a place to recommend to disaffected members we know who have left the Labour Party. No excuse now to disengage from politics, just put their slippers on or do the gardening.

If you know anyone who recently left due to the actions of the New Labour leadership, then they are as much members in exile as those who have actually been suspended,
so make contact and get them to stay engaged and do something useful with Labour in Exile.

(They can of course also do the same by becoming registered supporters of JVL 🙂
