Hate crime against Muslims is greatly undercounted

In doing so, he builds on Dr Alan Maddison’s pioneering work Do the hate crime headlines tell the true story? published on this website last month.
It matters. As Labour MP John McDonnell told Middle East Eye: “This serious under-estimation of the hate crimes against Muslims by the police and other authorities skews the policies needed in place to protect the Muslim community.”
The Office for Statistics Regulation is aware of the issues with the official stats and indeed told Jewish Voice for Liberation that they planned to improve their presentation; this is good but much more transparency is needed.
As Jenny Manson, co-chair of JVL points out, there are dangerous double standards in the reporting of the undoubted increases in both Islamophobia and in antisemitism and the effects of downplaying the former “are very destructive to both our communities”.

There should be no heirarchy of Racism. Making antisemitism special is itself antisemitic and will make Jews an even greater target especially with Israel still rampaging, stealing and slaughtering Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and mass destruction and evictions in Lebanon, Syria and more wars in Iran.where already thousands of civilians have been killed.
The UK and US have done nothing to stop all this and still keep arming Israel while the whole Middle East is burning. Now we can see the value and courage by the Green Party where Zionism and racism keep being imposed on the Palestinians all as the result of its supremacist and eliminationist ideology. Zionism is not an abstract concept but is settler colonialism lin tooth and claw. Israel has taken it to an even higher level while the destruction heaped on Palestinians make them an endangered people. Yet not a word of condemnation or action from the Western governments.All that is being discussed is antisemitism.
Yes, yet again the ‘stated peace of mind’ of British Jews as described by various self appointed spokesmen/women for Jewish groupings is attracting more official sympathy, support and given supremacy (notably by Lord Mann) over the well authenticated actual witnessing of friends and family of the inhabitants of Gaza and the West Bank being slaughtered. Not to mention the very real prospect of death of all others including themselves in the occupied territories not only directly at the hands of the IDF but from disease and deprivation of the essentials of life. And yet, verbal or other support for Palestinians given or expressed is damned as antisemitism leading to possible arrest.
Diane Abbott must be more than a little miffed at this turn of events.
