Educators for Peace call out UKLFI’s SLAPPS strategy

UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) is accusing a Scottish teachers’ organisation, Educators for Peace (EFP), of “promoting politically partisan and arguably antisemitic materials for teachers to use in Scottish classrooms including to very young children.”

UKLFI  announces proudly on its website that it has denounced EFP to the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills in the Scottish Government, Education Scotland, and every Scottish local authority and the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), as well as separately referring “individuals associated with EFP to the GTCS for investigation into their fitness to teach.”

But EFP, an informal network of educators set up in August 2025 in response to the pervasive silence in schools and colleges about events in Gaza, is fighting back with a petition and a well-argued public statement, which we produce in full below.

They categorically reject the allegations contained in UKLFI’s fifty-page dossier and note that UKLFI is itself the subject of formal regulatory investigations by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Charity Commission, for allegedly using legal tactics “designed to silence rather than resolve political disagreements.”

EFP says it is working with partners “to hold UKLFI accountable for its use of what we consider  Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). We regard these as lawfare tactics intended to suppress legitimate advocacy and education on Palestine, and we do not believe  this should go unchallenged.”
