Gaza’s Gravediggers
JVL Introduction
As Talal Hangari makes clear at the start of his review of Norman Finkelstein’s new book Gaza’s Gravediggers, international law was transformed after the Second World War precisely in response to, and in order to avoid any recurrence of, the unspeakable atrocities of the preceding half century.
Its success inevitably depends on how active, informed, committed and effective the bodies that implement it are – which leads to Finkelstein’s subtitle: An Inquiry into Corruption in High Places
He has written not a history of the genocide in Gaza, but rather a record of “the complicity—born of cupidity and corruption, cowardice and careerism—of officials in high places … Truth cannot be mangled and Justice traduced with impunity” (xxxii).
The international institutions so painstakingly constructed after WW2 have proved themselves not just impotent to prevent and punish; they have at times abetted the crime of genocide.

Norman Finkelstein’s admirable forensic analysis of Israel’s horrific crime of genocide committed and still continuing unchallenged and unabated shows how even the judgements of the ICJ are flawed, giving the countries that support and enable the genocide the same impunity that Israel feels it has to go wild in using the same tactics it is using in Gaza to perpetuate havoc in the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Iran. The US and the UK, aided and abetted by Germany and France form the bulwark for Israel against being brought to justice. It is left to people’s actions and voices, at great personal cost and state censorship to continue to struggle to obtain justice and reparations for these unending crimes that will bring the world to the brink. La lutta continua!
this is brilliant Norman Finkelstein is a man who has never been afraid to confront Israel and its crimes. He exposes the MSM the institutions that are supposed to protect humanity against genocide who are it seems controlled by the powerful not by human decency.
The day must come when humanity and all governments everywhere must face the horror of what was allowed to be done in their name and allowed to continue by Governments who had the power to stop it. There are no excuses. The Gaza Grave diggers will be used alone with others as the evidence.
Good reporting .
