Israel is removing evidence from Gaza: it needs to stop!

EuroMed Monitor have issued this Press Release outlining extremely worrying developments: “at least 10 million tonnes of rubble have been removed, crushed, or moved from their original sites within the areas under Israel’s unlawful military control, which encompass about 66% of the Gaza Strip.”

This is unrelated to humanitarian efforts to rescue people or to open roads or to “prepare for reconstruction. Instead, Israel is acting unilaterally within closed areas under its military control by demolishing remaining buildings and then crushing, mixing, and transporting the rubble before forensic teams, evidence experts, and unexploded ordnance specialists can examine, document, and preserve the sites, along with the evidence and human remains.” It is unlikely these experts have been granted permission to enter Gaza and when – and if – they are allowed much evidence is likely to have been destroyed.

It seems that there is no end to the indignities Israel is inflicting on the people in Gaza who are still being displaced and only only have access to very limited aid. As well as evidence being destroyed, it is likely that peoples’s remains will also be crushed by the plethora of heavy machinery and carted away. In addition, the people of Gaza have (had to) become adept at recycling building materials from rubble and even this is being taken away, adding to the environmental and recontruction costs of the pulverisation of Gaza.

There is a great deal of information in this Press Release as well as a summary of how these actions violate international law as well as adding still more to the distress and privation of the people of Gaza. The international community must take action.
