In an astonishing video Sarah Hurwitz, (former speechwriter for Barack Obama) tells a meeting of the Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly that seeing the carnage (her word) that is happening in Gaza is confusing young Jews and this is a failure of Holocaust education and social media. For her the real crisis for Israel is not what it is doing in Gaza but because young people, including young Jews seeing the uncensored reality on their phones. She seems shocked and certainly disappointed that what young people are concluding from what they know of the Nazi Holocaust is that genocide is bad and they should side with the ones being oppressed, that they see in the images on social media big strong Israelis attacking “skinny Gazans” just as the Nazis attacked starving Jews. According to Hurwitz, the main (or even only) lesson they were supposed to learn was that antisemitism is bad.
Of course it is not only Hurwitz and this article shows more of what she said and more examples of trying to stem the tide of reality hitting home and destroying the argument that Israel is the victim, acts only in self defence and that zionism is the answer to antisemitism.
