Jews – Rebel. Now!!!

JVL Introduction

This is a howl of outrage and passionate plea from Avrum Burg, former head of the Jewish Agency and speaker of the Israeli Knesset.

It is a call for Jews to take sides, to speak against the zealots, by appealing to the International Court of Justice:

“In our appeal, we shall declare: We will not allow the State of Israel, which systematically inflicts violence upon a civilian population, to speak in our name. We will not allow Judaism to be a cover for crimes. This is not a rejection of our people it is a defense of its soul. Not destruction but repair.”

Jews – Rebel. Now!!!

A Jewish Plea to The International Court of Justice

  • There is not very much separating the present regime bringing such ruin to the Palestinian people and such contempt for the Jewish people from the regimes of the past. All were concerned with one thing, and that was the subjugation of Palestine by whatever means were possible. What is happening now is simply the end-stage of a long game played by the Israeli Zionists since long before the actual establishment of Israel just a few decades ago. The brutality has not suddenly leapt from being a little to being a lot. The violence has grown exponentially with each passing year for many years now, and the Hamas attack served only to bring forward what was due to happen anyway. Israel’s blatant betrayal of Judaism begins with the Nakba, when Israel chose to betray the Palestinian people. But as Palestinian misery has increased, so has the awareness among Jews of that misery; especially among those who have memory of what that kind of misery feels like. It is almost too late; but not quite. Jews are falling away from Zionism as fruits fall from a tree. We know that the Palestinians’ wellbeing is more important than our Jewish pride. It is the Zionists who deny history. Those who are not Zionists must accept it, all of it, and act on the lessons learned.

  • Count me in please. We need practical details of exactly how to organise this.

In response to Richard Snell’s comment above: yes it’s true that we can’t pinpoint a moment when Zionism changed from good to evil, it’s developed organically the whole time; you’re quite right about that, but surely the main point is that Zionism is not an “eternal” or intrinsic part of being Jewish, but a historical moment that had a beginning and is now heading towards its end. It’s high time for all Jewish communal and religious bodies to reconsider our relationship with Zionism and to dump it.

  • I am entirely in! Let’s organize this, quickly as it is so urgent. Had someone taken the lead?

  • I am not a Jew. Nevertheless, born in a Belgian catholic and secularized family, I have always found in the Jewish culture some lights to better understand our human condition and our history. I thank you, Abraham, for your testimony of the “enlighted” Judaïsm and genuine Jewish culture. This is tremendously important in the current situation. Please don’t stop to speak out.

    Google translate:
This would have been resolved with the coexistence of two states.
    Things cannot be postponed indefinitely.
There is a Hasidic saying: “No matter how many enemies a man has, none will harm him as much as he harms himself.” This applies to peoples and nations.
There is much to discuss on this subject.

  • I’m Jewish and mortified of what is happening in Israel. I lived there many years and saw the rise of the extremist psychopaths. I couldn’t believe it was happening. Netanyahu is the driver of this. He was indirectly responsible for the murder of Itzhak Rabin. Since then the situation deteriorated. I’m very happy that finally the Jewish soul is awakening.

  • Non-Jew here. There is always a saving remnant. You dissenters are heroes. You will be remembered forever in that light.

  • More Jews need to speak out and demand peace in Palestine.
Israel has been butchering the Palestinian people for 77 years.
    Enough is enough 🕊️❤️🛑✋
