Fascism in Israeli society, oppression of Palestinians: two lobes of the same right-wing brain

We are indebted to +972 magazine for this article calling on Israeli academia to open its eyes to the fascism tightening its grip on Israeli society.

The author Anat Matar analyses the academia-army nexus which has seen liberal academics who led the protest movement against the government’s planned judicial overhaul at the beginning of 2023, falling into line after October 7.

She says it is time to promote a civilian culture, demilitarize Israeli society and “forsake the illusory and inconsistent mantra of a ‘Jewish Democratic State’.”
