Not another Nakba: Violations of International Law must stop!

JVL Introduction

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) outlines deep concerns about Israel’s violations of International Law; that the ongoing displacements of more than 80% of the population is reminiscent of the Nakba.  Already more people have been displaced and more killed than during those terrible events.  There are deep fears that displacement within – and potentially outside the borders of – Gaza, will be permanent as they were in 1948.  “The NRC stresses that peace is the only viable solution for civilians in Gaza and Israel. A sustained ceasefire and mutually agreed-upon armistice conditions are essential to ending this suffering and enabling aid workers to deliver crucial relief to those in need.”

We reject the claims of some that calls for a ceasefire are antisemitic when it is literally the bare minimum and the only thing that can provide a basis for peace.

  • The Israeli Jews are not alone responsible for this latest phase of the ongoing Nakba and now its accompanying genocide. And neither solely responsible are those amongst diaspora Jews who are complicit by their approval. They have enablers, conspirators in sophisticated gun-running, inciters and apologists at the highest levels of international politics and not least, some 80 million members of the American eschatologically inspired sects within Christianity: Empire, ‘Rapture’ and as always, domestic political considerations.

So it’s not just the Jews, although it is, fundamentally, the Jews. Which is why I’ve been wondering recently if what they’ve been doing in Israel lately will at last cure the wider world of its chronic collective, existential guilt over the Holocaust. No more free passes. No more letting-get-away-with. Weep, wail, gnash teeth however much: no, you yourselves, have cancelled the lachrymose interpretation of Jewish history. Those tears no longer move us, the world will say, because of the tears you have brought to the innocent eyes of so many others.
