Chatham House and the call for the decolonisation of Israel and Palestine
JVL Introduction
Prof Mandy Turner was asked to write an opinion piece for Chatham House, explaining why the “peace” between Israel and the Palestinians had been shattered.
They didn’t like her answer, as she explains below, and she withdrew her piece, now published by Jadaliyya.
In it she gives a concise, powerful and highly readable summary of the causes of the current conflict.

Chatham House and the call for the decolonisation of Israel and Palestine
The one-sided peace has been punctured in the Middle East. To ensure justice and stability for all, Israel’s apartheid system over Palestinians should be dismantled

A splendid article, beautifully argued and written. Chatham House (“the UK’s leading international affairs think-tank … and second most influential international affairs think-tank in the world”) betrayed its own remit by not having the courage to publish it.
Chatham House is a stronghold of the British establishment
What an excellent article. I cannot identify anything in it that is inaccurate or poorly argued. What on earth is Chatham House’s objection?
Is the war postponing the Netanyahu corruption investigations..and trial?
Isn’t this the very truth of it. Great article thanks. The cognitive dissonance of our politicians is a disaster
Well written and factual should be published in mainstream media rather than the lies and distortions with the right wing still purporting it started 7/10 jaw jaw not war humanity still rules for majority of people
Professor Turner’s article is both informed and sensitive.Chatham House has indeed betrayed its remit but more sadly it has betrayed its reputation and in this, it is not alone. In recent years, we have witnessed other honourable institutions so compromised – the Judiciary and the MSM to name but two ‘ – a chilling reflection of a continuing loss of sovereignty.
It is good to have this analysis which reinforces the recent comments of a resigning UN official.
Why would Chatham commission a study knowing that its content would be unacceptable? The Israeli authorities are absolutely clear in their intentions for Gaza and the Palestinian people, how many years have heard the ‘river to the sea’ chant from virtually all quarters in Israel?
For my simple way of thinking, this episode raises the question ‘What purpose does Chatham serve?’
And of course all of this is on record and known. It’s just that the, failed, US attempt to colonize the Middle East using Israel as its base has as usual gone spectacularly wrong. Meanwhile other European vassal states must hold the line and not let any of the historic truth come out for public consumption.
One can only wonder what they expected her to write!
