The role of the Jewish Chronicle

JVL Introduction

IPSO has found the Jewish Chronicle (the JC) to have breached its code of conduct on at least 28 occasions. But IPSO has refused to launch a formal investigation into the JC’s editorial standards.

Jonathan Cook asks why.

This is partly because IPSO was created seven years ago by the owners of the corporate media precisely to avoid the establishment of a proper regulatory body in the wake of the Levenson public inquiry.

But also, insists Cook, it is because the JC’s interventions lay at the heart of the establishment’s campaign to be rid of former Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

In the article below he develops his case.

Jewish Chronicle’s libel payouts were a small price to pay for smearing Corbyn and the left

  • I have been studying the IPSO web site and note
that they use the words “may”, “can” which essentially
    lets them off the hook.

What I cannot understand though is why the Labour Party
did not itself publicise the adjudication of complaints by
and subsequent damages paid to Audrey White (as indicated in article above). This originally appeared during the Election campaign and ended with the comment about “obstruction” by the JC. Maybe she was unwilling? I can perfectly understand this

  • Vexatious claims of anti semitism are hate crimes and should be prosecuted
Which would put the main protagonists in gaol and their toilet paper out of business

  • One correction I would offer..
I don’t think it’s accurate to say that “the more vigorously the Labour left has rejected claims that the party is riddled with antisemitism the more it has sunk into the mire… “, in fact it feels like quite opposite has been true.

I don’t really remember any high profile counter arguments being put against the accusations.

Corbyn’s team seemed to hope to avoid tackling the accusations head on, and the accusations just multiplied anyway, as though they had a free reign.

Now, we’re in the situation where it seems that if you just describe your journey round the M25 as a ‘nightmare’, then someone will accuse you of trivialising the real nightmare of the holocaust !

JVL has always countered the accusations in a direct way, and now Starmer’s gang has had to resort to claiming guilt by association partly because JVL’s arguments are so robust and true.

Keep up the good work !

  • It is a very shoddy story of political manipulation by old established elements on the political right of centre, inclusive of entrenched bosses within the Labour Party, who are collectively known as the Establishment, which subtly controls everything. A significant part of this is the ultra biased media. There is no real regulation. Am I right in recalling that an extensive public inquiry, which heard shocking evidence about the law unto itself print media, recommended proper independent regulation, but this was dodged all round to leave us with useless so-called self-regulation…? We have, in effect, a country controlled by big money.

  • Jonathan is right about there being many more people who have been labelled antisemitic by these publications, but can’t afford to pursue this through the courts. Along with 17 others in my constituency, I was named in the Jewish News and the Jewish Chronicle as well as two local papers as being antisemitic …a ‘labour source’ reported we were ‘A Stain on our City’. On subsequently receiving my charges, they were for a FB post criticising the staff at Labour HQ for sabotaging the election, NOT antisemitism. The joke is, after sending in my response, I’ve been reinstated with no case to answer.

  • While one does not see what goes on beyond closed doors, this is a highly plausible explanation; that the JC has been the establishment’s editorial wrecking ball aimed at the left, and therefore worthy of bailing out.
