The Guardian condemns Israel’s death penalty law

JVL Introduction

This Guardian editorial on Israel’s death penalty law, just adopted by the Knesset, is uncompromising in its condemnation.

It is an important statement exposing yet again the barbarities and sheer racism of the law.

And, almost as an aside, the Guardian writes: ” It is bizarre for allies to keep speaking of shared values, but they failed to take substantive action over the annihilation in Gaza…”

Bizarre indeed. But moral backbone – indeed backbone of any kind – is not what we can expect from this dreadful Starmer government.

Ironic, too, that the passing of this immoral law should coincide with Palestinian Land Day, commemorating events in 1976 when, for the first time since the nakba, that Palestinian citizens of Israel stood up affirming their national identity as Palestinians.

We ask you to write to your MP asking them to take whatever action they can. At the end of the article is a letter drafted by Hastings Jews for Justice which you may find helpful.

Also a video of a brief public action on this issue by the same group.
