How the UK military and intelligence establishment is working to stop Jeremy Corbyn becoming prime minister

JVL Introduction

Our intelligence services and the military are supposed bound by the “constitutional principle” of non-involvement in political affairs.

Are they?

Matt Kennard, head of investigations at Declassified UK, shows that an astonishing 34 national news media stories coming from such sources have been published since September 2015.

No fewer than 440 articles in the UK press in this period cast Jeremy Corbyn as a “threat to national security”

All this raise serious questions about the nature of these institutions.

  • “He opposes Britain having nuclear defences”

British nuclear weapons have nothing to do with defence. They are about status. In October of 1946, a small Cabinet committee gave the go-ahead to the atomic weapons programme. What swung it was the contribution by Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin who had just had a row with US Secretary of State James Byrnes.

Attlee did not dare take the matter to the full Cabinet due to the strength of the opposition which was led by Chancellor Hugh Dalton.

Norman Tebbit often likes to praise the Attlee government for this decision.
But, if Norman Tebbit praises you, then it almost always means that the decision is wrong.
