Court case over French failure to prevent corporate support for Israel
JVL Introduction
Effective solidarity work can take time and doesn’t necessarily make for gripping reading. The devil really is in the detail.
So don’t let your eyes glaze over at the headline “Rights groups sue France over failure to prevent corporate support for Israel’s occupation in Palestine”.
The International Court of Justice left no doubt that states cannot stand on the sidelines when faced with legal obligations. But left to themselves they will drag their feet forever.
The tide really is turning. Public opinion really is on the side of the Palestinians and governments must be made to follow – even if they have to dragged, kicking and screaming, to do the right thing.
It is the accumulation of detailed interventions like this one that will eventually whittle away the shield of impunity that has provided Israel with protection for far too long.
Andy Burnham, take note.
